We are looking for an Accounting Manager who will run the accounting close activities and daily accounting operations of Jama Software, with emphasis on cash management, payroll management, accounts payable, and operating expenses.

You’ll be working with your manager, our Corporate Controller, to achieve the goals of the Accounting team! You will also supervise two accounting staff, including detailing and reviewing all work completed, completing performance evaluations, coordinating training programs, and identifying training needs, as needed.

We are a remote first company, however, our ideal candidate would be local to the Portland, Oregon Metropolitan area to collaborate in person on occasion.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead accounting period close for areas of functional responsibility, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Lead and review work prepared by Staff Accountants and Accounting Specialist, mentor and coordinate members of the accounting team on projects.
  • Maintain and manage changes to accounting ERP and other software systems under areas of functional responsibility.
  • Lead and support vendor relationships and related communications, including closely managing payroll and banking relationships.
  • Lead and support internal relationships and related communications with Company personnel.
  • Run and support external audit requests related to functional assigned areas.
  • Communicate timely, clearly, and effectively with the Corporate Controller, weekly regarding the status of all accounting projects, team initiatives, and accounting tasks.
  • Assist the Corporate Controller with reviewing current policies and procedures and seek ways to improve processes to ensure timely monthly close, accuracy of accounting entries, and operational efficiency.
  • Assist the Corporate Controller in designing, implementing, maintaining, and supervising corporate accounting policies and procedures; and assist in internal control and process documentation.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Finance or Accounting.
  • 5+ years of experience within the software/high-tech industries.
  • Intermediate understanding of U.S. GAAP including but not limited to knowledge about how to account for payroll accruals/expenses, prepaid assets, fixed assets, debt, and lease accounting and complex technical accounting knowledge a plus – e.g., ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 805, ASC 718.
  • 3+ years of people management experience.
  • Solid understanding of US compliance and regulations related to payroll taxes, income taxes, property taxes, and other local taxes.
  • Proficiency in using existing accounting systems to accomplish goals.
  • Strong aim to contribute to an accurate, efficient, and timely monthly/quarterly/annual close and financial reporting process.
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Suite, Adobe, and enterprise-wide systems and databases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent time-management skills, and ability to multi-task and handle urgent requests.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive at identifying and remedying issues quickly with a high degree of confidentiality and efficiency as well as clearly and concisely communicating problems/solutions to the team.
  • Insatiable curiosity; self-starter with a can-do attitude and ability to positively implement change.
  • Seeks constructive feedback and acts on it, partners with the Corporate Controller to lead the team in all projects/tasks.
  • Able to work independently, yet is energized by being part of a team-oriented culture.
  • Able to build strong relationships with internal customers, business leaders, and peers.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in a high-growth SaaS company.
  • 3+ years of public accounting experience.
  • Experience with Intacct, NetSuite, and Nexonia.
