StackLok is an innovative software supply chain security startup founded by Kubernetes co-founder, Craig McLukie and Sigstore founder, Luke Hinds. Our mission is to make it easier to securely develop software. With our deep expertise in open-source technologies and commitment to enhancing software security, we are seeking highly skilled and motivated individuals to join our team. This is a rare opportunity to join a startup at an early stage, and to be part of a team that is committed to building something truly innovative and impactful. Learn more about StackLok’s mission, virtues, role and leadership here.

Elevator Pitch

We are on a mission to empower developers and organizations to safeguard their software supply chains with unparalleled security and confidence. Reliability and “as a service” delivery of those capabilities are a key part of delivering that security functionality, simplifying the process of enabling and consuming the safeguards that we provide. As a Staff SRE, you will be focused on building and improving the platform Stacklok uses to provide security features to individual developers as well as organizations across the spectrum: public and private, open source and closed, with a range of software delivery models. If being part of a global community focused on securing the software supply chain excites you and you have a passion for enabling fast-paced development while enabling reliability and security guardrails, we would love to hear from you!

Success in the Role: 6-12 Month Expectations

  • Within the first months of employment, become comfortable with the current infrastructure-as-code environment using Terraform to deploy SaaS software to Kubernetes on AWS.
  • Design and deliver application platform functionality, including SLO monitoring, daily application delivery, controlled feature deployment, and other capabilities as agreed on with engineering stakeholders, including PM, tech leads, and senior management.
  • Take a leadership role within the engineering organization, helping feature engineering teams adopt an operational mindset, as well as engaging in constructive discussions balancing reliability, sound architecture, and engineering agility.
  • Recommend and implement additional operational improvements around infrastructure spend and security to tech leads and senior management.

In this Role, You will have the Opportunity to:

  • Take ownership of several complex subsystems, contributing to the design and architecture of new features and improvements.
  • Have a major say in the architecture and deployment of Stacklok’s SaaS services.
  • Participate in technical hiring panels and processes to support team growth.
  • Write application code as well as infrastructure code, and participate in feature design reviews as well as produce engineering artifacts (design documents, OKRs) for review by the rest of the team.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and create a positive team environment through effective communication, active participation in meetings, and a willingness to share knowledge and expertise.
  • Lead blameless postmortems on production incidents, finding multiple root causes and assessing the most cost-effective fixes.
  • Effectively manage priorities, and communicate progress and challenges with the team and stakeholders.
  • Foster a team and community culture of empathy, curiosity and psychological safety.
  • Think like a founder!

We know from experience that not ticking every box on the skills sections stops many from applying. Please apply regardless of your self-assessment -- we want to hear from you! We have seen engineers succeed with a diverse range of skills and experiences.

  • Experience deploying applications to Kubernetes.
  • Experience implementing application uptime monitoring and SLOs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
