At Branch, we’re transforming how brands and users interact across digital platforms. Our Branch team consists of smart, humble, and collaborative people who value ownership over all. Everything we do is centered around creating a great product, team, and company that lives and breathes our motto: Build Together, Grow Together, Win Together.

As a Principal Software Engineer You’ll be joining a fast-moving team working to build the next generation of mobile app discovery, for potentially billions of devices around the globe. We're seeking someone who's excited about working closely with Product Managers, Engineers and other Data Scientists to address unsolved problems in acquiring, understanding, and ranking content from inside of mobile apps. Working with our team means you'll get the opportunity to learn and grow on a daily basis, interfacing with both technical and non-technical team members, and coordinating closely with external partners.

  • As a Principal Software Engineer, you’ll get to:

    • Help build and shape the next generation of Branch’s products and systems.
    • Influence and drive best practices and technical excellence across the Branch organization.
    • Be willing and able to deep dive on special projects across teams, our technical stack, and put your vast experience to work.
    • Solve hard problems - that’s a given! You’ll be thrown into a wide variety of problems, and will need to figure out how to move forward, build a plan, and bring others along. Must have a strong problem solving mentality.
    • Partner with data scientists, infrastructure engineers, software engineers, data engineers, product designers and product managers to design, build and deliver big projects and new platform capabilities.
    • Build high quality, stable and scalable systems and features, and embrace an incremental approach to improving systems.
    • Excel at designing and adapting scalable systems and applying architectural best practices, in a pragmatic way.
    • Mentor other team members and lead by example. Be a stellar example to the organization of advanced interpersonal skills, amazing technical ability, and strong business acumen.
    • Learn something new every week, whether it’s a new technology or a quirk of a language we otherwise didn’t know. Be an example of continuous improvement and share your learnings frequently with others on the team.

You’ll be a good fit if you have:

    • 12+ years of professional experience building scalable systems.
    • Have a wide variety of technical skills and an ability to learn and adapt quickly to unfamiliar systems, languages and platforms.
    • Strong experience in Java, Python and TypeScript and comfortable diving into any language or technology.
    • Strong experience in building and maintaining data driven systems.
    • Experience with databases like Postgres, and familiarity with Redis, Kafka and Airflow.
    • Experience building and debugging complex systems in a team environment.
    • Ability to write readable and testable code.
    • Experience architecting complex, high-scale systems and working with others to collaboratively review and improve scalable architecture.
    • Experience as a team and/or project lead. Able to organize, persuade and collaborate in many types of situations.
    • High attention to detail and a strong desire to continually improve.
    • Effective communicator, both written and spoken, to a wide variety of audiences and levels. Can bridge the gap between technical and business concepts and people.
    • Ability to flex between long-term strategic concepts and in-depth technical details. Able to build a long-term technical strategy.
