Echodyne is seeking a Systems Administrator to join our fast-growing team!

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled Systems Administrator with strong Linux expertise to support and enhance our primarily Windows-based IT infrastructure. This role requires an individual who can operate confidently in hybrid environments while ensuring compliance with NIST cybersecurity frameworks and supporting export-controlled systems and data (EAR/ITAR).

The successful candidate will serve as the organization's subject matter expert on Linux systems—driving secure configurations, system hardening, cross-platform integration, and documentation to meet both operational and regulatory requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Linux Systems Administration (Primary Focus)

  • Install, configure, maintain, and secure Linux systems in accordance with NIST 800-171 controls.
  • Perform routine patching, updates, vulnerability remediation, and configuration management.
  • Manage Linux-based services (systemd, Nginx/Apache, SSH, syslog).
  • Configure filesystems, storage, permissions, encryption, and backups in compliance with security requirements.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts (Bash, Python) to improve consistency and compliance.

Windows Infrastructure Support (Secondary)

  • Collaborate with the Windows team on Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, and authentication mechanisms.
  • Support cross-platform identity and access management aligned with NIST access control policies.
  • Assist with Windows Server administration and virtualization platforms within compliant environments.

Compliance, Security & Governance

  • Ensure systems and processes adhere to NIST 800-171, and internal SSP (System Security Plan) requirements.
  • Support export-controlled (EAR/ITAR) environments by enforcing access restrictions, logging requirements, and data segregation.
  • Participate in cybersecurity audits, system assessments, and vulnerability scans.
  • Maintain configuration baselines, security documentation, and evidence for compliance reviews.
  • Implement and maintain system hardening standards and security controls across Linux and hybrid environments.

Monitoring, Logging & Incident Response

  • Deploy and manage system monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, Zabbix).
  • Maintain centralized logging (e.g., syslog, ELK/Elastic) in accordance with NIST audit and traceability requirements.
  • Support incident response activities, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of detection, response, and recovery processes.

Networking & Interoperability

  • Troubleshoot networking services, secure remote access, firewall rules, VPN configurations, and cross-platform connectivity.
  • Ensure secure communication between Linux systems and Windows infrastructure components.

DevOps & Automation (Preferred)

  • Use automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, scripting) to support consistent, compliant system deployments.
  • Assist with CI/CD pipeline integrations in regulated environments.

Documentation & Collaboration

  • Maintain detailed runbooks, diagrams, SOPs, and configuration documentation aligned with compliance standards.
  • Work closely with IT, security, engineering, and compliance teams to ensure seamless operations across controlled environments.

REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

  • 3 or more years of hands-on Linux systems administration experience (Ubuntu preferred).
  • Strong understanding of system security, networking fundamentals, and hardening best practices.
  • Experience supporting systems governed by NIST 800-53, 800-171, or similar frameworks.
  • Ability to work within and maintain export-compliant (EAR/ITAR) environments.
  • Experience with Bash scripting and automation.
  • Familiarity with Windows Server, AD, Entra ID, and hybrid systems.
  • U.S. person status as required by ITAR

DESIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
(
In this role, you will build many of the skills listed below. Previous experience in one or more of these areas is preferred but not required.)

  • Experience with VMware, Hyper-V, or cloud platforms (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, etc.).
  • Experience with configuration management (Ansible, Salt, Puppet, Chef).
  • Familiarity with SIEM tools and log aggregation platforms.
  • Exposure to containerization (Docker) in regulated environments.

SOFT SKILLS

  • Exceptional attention to detail, especially regarding documentation and compliance evidence.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to balance security requirements with operational needs.
