The hiring pay range for this position is based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role; title may be assessed one level lower or higher, accordingly. Other components of total compensation include a competitive options grant at the time of hire (with potential for additional grants).

We are seeking an exceptional individual to own the research, documentation, and conclusion of technical accounting matters as well as all Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reporting in our dynamic, early-stage biotech company. The Senior External Reporting and Technical Accounting Manager will provide hands-on execution and administration of the financial reporting process and ensures compliance with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on, rapid growth experience at a public company or biotech startup. Reporting to the Corporate Controller and working closely with company executives, scientists, and operations staff. This position has high visibility to upper management, collaborates closely with other business groups, and offers a unique company-wide view of the company from the financial core.
Responsibilities
Develop and lead a high-performing team of internal or contract resources to support expanding financial reporting and technical accounting needs.
Oversee and manage the end-to-end process for all SEC filings, including annual and quarterly reports, including 10-Qs and 10-Ks (and associated XBRL reporting efforts), and other required form filings to ensure accuracy of data presented and ensure that financial statements adhere to GAAP and SEC regulations.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of key financial reporting schedules - including Earnings Per Share, Statement of Cash Flow and Equity Rollforward, among others – through preparation or detailed review.
Lead the transformation of financial reporting processes, controls, and disclosures to support the Company’s transition from pre-commercial to commercial stage organization.
Research, analyze and conclude on complex technical accounting issues, including the preparation of memorandums regarding the Company’s position. Maintain deep and broad knowledge of GAAP and related accounting guidance (revenue recognition, collaboration agreements, etc.)
Review contracts (including revenue contracts) and assess/ document accounting technical memo.
Lead policy initiatives, including the implementation of new accounting standards. Ensure internal accounting policies and controls are maintained and up to date. Monitor, document and determine new accounting standards impact to the Company, and make necessary changes to policies and controls as appropriate.
Organize and lead quarterly disclosure committee meetings.
Manage the relationship with internal and external audits. Act as the key point of contact between auditors and internal finance/accounting team.
Develop a thorough understanding of end-to-end IT/business processes and associated risks to design and support implementation of new processes (i.e., Revenue, Order-to-Cash, etc). Maintain SOX documentation including process narratives and risk control matrices (RCMs) for internal controls over financial reporting.
Responsible for management of stock-based compensation system, reporting and disclosures.
Contribute toward improving the effectiveness and efficiency in the corporate monthly/ quarterly close and reporting process. Support the monthly accounting close and reporting process.
Participate in or lead ad hoc projects, as needed.
Requirements
A minimum of 8 years of related work experience with public company exposure, either Big 4 accounting or a mix of Big 4 and industry experience. Additional years of experience are preferred. Significant experience with SEC registered companies required.
BS/BA degree in Finance or Accounting, or equivalent experience, and CPA.
Strong knowledge of SEC reporting and US GAAP, particularly as it pertains to revenue recognition.
Experience working in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry preferred.
Very strong written and verbal communication skills as well as analytical skills.
Must be flexible, adaptable, proactive, and work well under pressure.
Experience collaborating successfully across multiple teams and levels.
Working knowledge of XBRL is a plus.

Compensation Range: $145K - $196K
