Who We Are

We are OpenHands, an open-source AI platform that empowers engineering teams to accelerate development, automate workflows, and integrate intelligent coding assistance into real-world software delivery.

As an Engineering Manager at OpenHands, you will lead a small team of 4 to 6 engineers focused on building user-facing features and improving the developer experience for our AI-assisted development tools. You will bring clarity to goals, support day-to-day execution, and help engineers grow as we scale our open-source project and commercial platform. This is a hands-on leadership role where you guide technical decisions, keep projects on track, and create an environment where engineers thrive.

What You’ll Do

• Manage a team of software engineers, supporting their growth and development
• Partner with Product and Design to plan, prioritize, and deliver roadmap initiatives
• Ensure high-quality, reliable releases through strong technical and operational practices
• Create clarity around goals, ownership, and delivery expectations across projects
• Foster a culture of feedback, learning, and continuous improvement
• Participate in technical discussions and design reviews to support good decisions
• Improve team-level processes as we grow and help identify opportunities for better collaboration across engineering
• Collaborate with other engineering leads to align on best practices and shared priorities
  

What You Bring

• Experience managing engineers or leading teams, ideally in a startup or high-growth environment
• 6+ years of software engineering experience with enough technical depth to participate in design discussions and support the team’s work across our stack
• A track record of helping your team ship reliable, user-facing software
• Strength in creating clarity, setting expectations, and guiding execution
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• A coaching mindset and interest in supporting engineers’ growth
• Experience improving team-level processes around planning, testing, or releases
• Interest in AI-driven developer tools and open-source software
