Role Summary

The Senior Systems Engineer, Platforms is responsible for Architecting, Developing, Qualifying, and Sustaining Hardware Platforms approved to run on Qumulo File System. This role combines deep technical expertise in enterprise hardware, platform integration, and low-level software engineering with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, i.e. Hardware, Software, Manufacturing, Supply chain, and Customer Support to deliver high-quality, cost-effective platforms from concept through end-of-life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement platform solutions for on-premises and cloud-integrated enterprise hardware

  • Collaborate with Software teams to integrate new platform features, ensuring security, performance, and scalability best practices

  • Participate in technical evaluations of HDDs, SSDs, NVMes, NICs, CPUs, and other critical components; make recommendations on vendor and component selection.

  • Own qualification of new hardware platforms, OEM configurations, and component revisions.

  • Maintain and improve platform benchmarking processes and fleet performance monitoring.

  • Analyze syslog and telemetry data to detect early signs of hardware or firmware failures.

  • Work with Test Engineering to enhance automated validation suites and CI/CD pipelines for platform software.

  • Manage lifecycle of drivers, firmware, and kernel versions; ensure upgrade paths for customers.

  • Orchestrate component change orders and firmware updates across manufacturing facilities and deployed platforms.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Experience: 10+ years in Enterprise hardware/Platform engineering, manufacturing support, or low-level software engineering.

  • Experience with Linux, driver/firmware integration, and kernel-level debugging.

  • Experience in Python skills is a plus.

  • Familiarity with distributed systems, storage architectures, and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).

  • Hands-on experience with PLM systems, product change management, and hardware qualification processes.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of AWS, Azure, or GCP integration for hybrid/cloud platforms.

  • Experience in network interface tuning, storage performance optimization, and system benchmarking.

  • Familiarity with automated manufacturing test systems and CI/CD for hardware.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in fast-paced environments.

The annual pay range for the role is USD $159,000 - $190,000
