Cloud Deployment Engineer (Professional Services)

About the Company:
Qumulo is the unstructured data platform to store and manage exabyte-scale data anywhere – at the edge, in the core data center, and in the cloud. With unstructured data growing in more locations faster than ever before, enterprises today need a way to store, manage, and curate data simply and efficiently in any location, on any platform.

At Qumulo, we are building an open and collaborative culture where people can do their best work with customers as our magnetic field. We act as owners, we share by default, we are data-driven and experimental and, as an inclusive workplace, we encourage and celebrate multiple points of view. As part of our culture, we believe diversity drives innovation.

About the Position:
Customers are the lifeblood of our company, and Qumulo is looking for a strategic, customer-focuse and results-driven Cloud Deployment Engineer to join our Professional Services team. In this role, you will be the technical face of Qumulo, responsible for delivering an amazing Day 1 experience.

We are looking for a creative problem-solver who bridges the gap between complex infrastructure and customer needs. You will own the technical delivery of our platform, consulting with external customers to design solutions, overcome deployment hurdles and leverage Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) to ensure scalable, automated success in both cloud and hybrid environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Customer-Facing Service Delivery: Act as the primary technical consultant for customers during onboarding. Coordinate and execute installations, integrations and training to ensure customers derive maximum value from their Qumulo investment.
  • Cloud Deployment & Automation: Lead complex platform deployments across cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and on-premises data centers. Heavily leverage Infrastructure-as-Code tools, primarily Terraform and CloudFormation, to deliver scalable, consistent and automated customer outcomes.
  • Solution Creation & Problem Solving: Serve as a trusted advisor in the field. Autonomously troubleshoot deployment challenges, architect workarounds and design tailored solutions that fit into the customer's unique technical ecosystem.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Customer Success Managers (CSMs) and Implementation Project Managers (IPMs) to ensure impeccable preparation and seamless execution of professional services engagements.
  • Strategic Guidance: Educate customers on modern cloud architecture, data center best practices and the Qumulo product suite.
  • Continuous Improvement: Provide detailed, accurate accounting of engagements. Actively participate in retrospective reviews to improve the Professional Services practice and feed field insights back to Engineering and Product teams to close product gaps.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 2 - 4 years of experience in a customer-facing Professional Services, IT Delivery, Solutions Engineering or Technical Consulting role.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: 2 - 4 years of hands-on experience deploying and managing core cloud components (AWS, Azure, GCP), including EBS, S3, managed disks, storage accounts, NAT gateways and ELBs.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC): Strong proficiency with deployment automation using Terraform and/or CloudFormation.
  • Problem Solving: A proven track record of thinking on your feet, solving complex technical problems independently and designing infrastructure solutions in real-time.
  • Scripting & OS: Familiarity with Python scripting for task automation and a solid understanding of Linux package management systems (RPM and DEB).
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to translate complex technical concepts to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Logistics: Detail-oriented, highly organized and able to multitask. Ability to travel up to 20% for customer engagements (averaging 1 trip per month).

Highly Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Working knowledge of scale-out file systems.
  • Solid experience configuring and troubleshooting networks using modern switch operating systems (Cisco, Arista, Mellanox).
  • Familiarity with Windows Active Directory and mixed Linux/Windows OS environments.

Compensation & Equal Opportunity:
The annual pay range for the role is USD $81,000 - $121,000. Individual pay depends on various factors, such as role level, relevant experience and skills, and location. Pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the pay range applicable at the time.
