About the Company:

Qumulo is the simple way to manage exabyte-scale data anywhere — edge, core, or cloud — on the platform of your choice. In a world with trillions of files and objects comprising 100+ zettabytes worldwide, companies need a solution that combines the ability to work anywhere with simplicity. This is precisely what Qumulo was founded to accomplish.

At Qumulo, we are building an open and collaborative culture where people can do their best work with customers as our magnetic field. We act as owners, we share by default, we are data driven and experimental and as an inclusive workplace, we encourage and celebrate multiple points of view. As part of our culture we believe diversity drives innovation.

About the Position:

The Systems Engineer 2 (SSE2), Platforms is a hybrid systems engineering and application engineering role responsible for executing hardware platform qualification, sustaining engineering, field hardware escalation support, and internal platform tooling development.

This role operates as the primary execution owner of platform initiatives, working in close partnership with the Senior Systems Engineer (Platform Architect), who defines architecture and long-term direction. The SSE2 translates architectural vision into operational reality.

This is a deeply technical role with direct Sales enablement impact. Platform accuracy, tooling reliability, and hardware readiness directly influence customer trust and revenue execution.

Responsibilities:

1. Platform Tooling & Application Engineering

  • Design and enhance internal configurators and automation tools used by Sales Engineering and Operations.
  • Build and maintain frontend applications using React and TypeScript.
  • Develop backend services in Python (FastAPI/Flask or similar).
  • Integrate with internal systems using REST or GraphQL APIs.
  • Implement authentication and authorization flows (SSO, OAuth2/JWT, Auth0/Okta).
  • Work with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB).
  • Contribute to cloud-integrated services (AWS Lambda, API Gateway, S3, EC2).

2. Platform Qualification & Sustaining

  • Execute qualification of enterprise hardware platforms (NVMe, SSD, HDD, NICs, CPUs, RAID, chassis).
  • Validate OEM configurations and firmware/driver revisions.
  • Perform benchmarking, performance analysis, and component evaluation.
  • Manage kernel, driver, and firmware lifecycle to ensure stable upgrade paths.
  • Collaborate with software engineering on hardware-software integration improvements.
  • Support manufacturing change orders and platform revisions.

3. Field Hardware Escalations & Customer Impact

  • Serve as primary triage owner for hardware-related escalations.
  • Analyze logs, telemetry, and system behavior across hardware and software layers.
  • Identify root cause across firmware, kernel, and distributed system interactions.
  • Engage external vendors and drive accountability.
  • Balance interrupt-driven support with structured engineering execution.

4. Hardware Lab & Validation Operations

  • Design and execute validation testing for new and sustaining platforms.
  • Triage and disposition lab-generated hardware bugs.
  • Filter non-actionable hardware noise from systemic issues.
  • Improve documentation and validation repeatability.
  • Reduce unnecessary interruptions to software development teams.

Qualifications:

  • 7–12 years of experience in enterprise systems engineering, hardware platforms, or infrastructure engineering.
  • Experience building frontend applications with React and TypeScript.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Experience building secure backend services and working with APIs.
  • Familiarity with cloud services (AWS preferred).
  • Strong Linux systems expertise (log analysis, debugging, performance analysis).
  • Experience with firmware, drivers, kernel-level troubleshooting, or hardware/software integration.
  • Ability to independently manage field escalations and competing priorities.
  • Strong vendor engagement and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in storage systems or distributed file systems.
  • Experience in storage performance benchmarking and tuning.
  • Experience with identity management systems (Auth0, Okta, SSO).
  • Experience supporting revenue-driven technical organizations.

The annual pay range for the role is USD $142,000- $182,000 USD

Individual pay depends on various factors, such as role level, relevant experience and skills. Pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the pay range applicable at the time.
