About the Position:
The Systems Engineer 2 - Platforms is a hybrid systems and application engineering role responsible for hardware platform qualification, sustaining engineering, field hardware escalation support, representing our technical interests with major hardware vendors, and internal platform tooling development.
This is a deeply technical role with direct Sales enablement impact, operates as the primary execution owner of platform initiatives, translating architectural vision into operational reality. Platform accuracy, tooling reliability, and hardware readiness directly influence customer trust and revenue execution. Python automation is a core part of how this work scales.
Responsibilities:
1. Platform Tooling & Application Engineering
- Design and enhance internal configurators and automation tools used by Sales Engineering and Operations.
- Own full-stack internal platform development in Python (REST, GraphQL, SQL, JWT).
- Partner with Sales Engineering on customer sizing consultations, IOPS/performance proofs, and tooling improvements.
2. Platform Qualification & Sustaining
- Convert Qumulo workload requirements into qualification criteria and interpret benchmark results across enterprise hardware platforms (NVMe, SSD, HDD, NIC, CPU, chassis).
- Drive component evaluation and platform decisions based on benchmark data and performance analysis.
- Manage kernel, driver, and firmware lifecycle to ensure stable upgrade paths.
- Surface hardware-software integration gaps and drive resolution with software engineering.
3. Field Hardware Escalations & Customer Impact
- Analyze logs, telemetry, and system behavior across hardware and software layers.
- Identify root cause across firmware, kernel, and distributed system interactions.
- Engage external vendors and hold vendors accountable.
- Balance interrupt-driven support with structured engineering execution.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in enterprise systems engineering, hardware platforms, or infrastructure engineering. Experience in storage systems or distributed file systems would be a bonus.
- Hands-on experience qualifying server hardware: NVMe, SSDs, HDDs, NICs, CPUs, chassis. Ideally including performance benchmarking experience and the ability to design and interpret workload-driven tests (e.g., iodepth, block size, read/write mix, multi-client scaling)
- Strong Python proficiency including full-stack development and cloud deployment.
- Strong Linux systems expertise (log analysis, debugging, performance analysis).
- Experience with firmware, drivers, kernel-level troubleshooting, or hardware/software integration.
- Ability to independently manage field escalations and competing priorities.
- Strong vendor engagement and cross-functional collaboration skills.
The annual pay range for the role is USD $142,000- $182,000 USD
Individual pay depends on various factors, such as role level, relevant experience and skills. Pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the pay range applicable at the time.
