Elevator Pitch

As Stacklok’s first Technical Marketing Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to help define this function, and you will have the autonomy to set the strategy and direction for our technical marketing efforts. You’ll be able to work closely with Engineering, Product Management, and our CTO to deeply understand our product strategy and how our products work, so that you can translate this into what matters to our highly technical audience of developers and security engineers. Because supporting open source is part of our company culture, you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to our open source projects (or even start a new one!) as part of your work.

This role reports to the Director of Product Marketing.

Success in the Role: 6-12 Month Expectations

  • Develop and execute a technical content strategy that communicates Stacklok’s differentiated capabilities to a highly technical developer and security audience. Content might include technical blog posts, reference architectures, product demos, videos, workshops, tutorials, best practice guides, and webinars / livestreams.
    • By the 12-month mark, you should be able to demonstrate at least a 10%-20% increase in site traffic and conversions based on the execution of your strategy.
  • Build up our library of video demos and tutorials to help our target audiences clearly understand what our product does and how it can help, helping us ultimately reach and attract new users. Partner with Engineering, Product, and Product Marketing to identify new use cases to explore and highlight.
  • Contribute to and support the management of our content calendar and social media channels on a weekly basis, in partnership with PMM and our Community Manager.
  • Develop and disseminate knowledge of competitors through internal presentations, battlecards, and third-party tests, to help inform messaging and product strategy.
  • In partnership with Product Marketing and the CTO, develop an initial plan for an educational program that can help raise developer awareness of software supply chain security fundamentals.
  • Provide hands-on demos and technical guidance at 3-5 industry conferences and events, as well as meetings with prospective customers and analysts and online events like webinars and livestreams.
    • Participation in conferences will require some travel (no more than 20% of your time).

In this Role, You will have the Opportunity to:

  • Own our technical content strategy and create high-quality technical content for an audience including developers and security engineers
Identify and raise awareness of new use cases for our products by working with Stacklok PMs and engineers
  • Showcase and document product use cases across different channels and in different formats, ultimately helping to increase our top-of-funnel user pipeline
  • Identify opportunities to partner with other companies, organizations, or open source communities on content development (like guest blog posts, technical case studies, and conference CFPs)
  • Help manage Stacklok’s social presence by sharing technical content on our social channels and engaging with our target audiences (in partnership with our Community Manager)
  • Test-drive and document new features, and provide feedback to Stacklok’s engineering and PM teams
  • Represent Stacklok at virtual and in-person industry events
  • Support sales efforts through technical content development and technical assistance in sales meetings
  • Contribute to Stacklok’s open source projects (Minder and Frizbee), if desired

We know from experience that not ticking every box on the skills sections stops many from applying. Please apply regardless of your self-assessment -- we want to hear from you! We have seen people succeed with a diverse range of skills and experiences.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Evidence of increasing site traffic, leads, and conversions in a prior technical marketing, product marketing, sales engineering, or developer relations role (or a related field), preferably in a startup or high-growth environment (or a related field)
  • Prior experience marketing to a developer audience and an understanding of how developers work
    • While our products are built for enterprise use, we know it is the day-to-day practitioners (DevOps, security engineers, developers) who evaluate our software, and they need access to great technical documentation and content. We aren’t interested in pursuing traditional enterprise marketing approaches (nor do we think they will work well).
  • A track record of and comfort level with demoing in higher-pressure environments (e.g., analyst and customer calls; industry conferences)
  • Video creation and basic video editing skills, using your editing platform of choice
  • At least one example of technical content (a blog post, a demo, etc) that you’ve created in the past
  • Prior experience in the cybersecurity or application security industry
  • Some familiarity with programming languages is desired
    • Minder is written in Go, and our policy templates are written in YAML and Rego. Minder supports languages including Python, Go, and JavaScript. A basic understanding of one or more of these languages will help you more effectively write technical documentation, code samples for tutorials, and other content.
