Accounting Lead

Bellevue (in-office), United States

Note: Even if this is closed, you are still free to reach out (LinkedIn cuts us off after a set number of applicants).

Statsig is seeking an Accounting Manager to join our team!

Statsig is a Sequoia- and Madrona-backed Series B data and analytics startup, with a talented team of ex-Facebook engineers and PMs. So far, we've exceeded all benchmarks for revenue growth - comparing favorably to companies like Snowflake, Amplitude, and others in a similar phase of growth.

This will be the first Accounting hire for a Statsig, making it a critical role. You’ll partner with the CEO, Head of Sales, and Head of Business Operations; building accounting systems, generating financial statements, handling payments and receivables, and informing critical business decisions. As the first Accounting hire, you will have the opportunity to shape and define the function while working closely with other teams.

In the long run, you'll have the opportunity to build out our Accounting / Finance function. While this role is listed as “Accounting Manager” there is a clear path to a Controller position over time.

Who?

Statsig is looking for a Accounting Manager hire who lives the Statsig values and has demonstrated a successful track record in accounting. Specifically, we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience in a “Big 4” accounting firm (2 – 3 years)
  • Experience working in a small company (technology company, preferred) as a part of their accounting function (2+ years, preferred)
  • CPA, strongly preferred
  • Understanding of accounting systems at small companies; interest / ability to build scalable systems
  • Experience with payables / receivable systems
  • “Figure it out” mentality and a demonstrated track record of learning new skills on the fly
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and results oriented.

This is a generalist accounting role that will combine managerial accounting, tax accounting, and some finance activities. It is best suited for people who are excited about learning new things, expanding scope, and building scalable systems.

What?

1. Accounting and Bookkeeping:

  • Maintain accurate records of financial transactions.
  • Balance accounts regularly to ensure financial clarity and accountability.
  • Prepare financial statements for Statsig’s Board and Investors.
  • Report financial results to Statsig’s Board and Investors.

2. Tax Management:

  • File city, county, local, state, and federal taxes in all jurisdictions where the company operates.
  • Ensure timely and accurate tax submissions in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

3. Insurance Handling:

  • Manage various business insurance policies, including business liability insurance, cyber insurance, and Directors and Officers (D&O) insurance.
  • Oversee policy renewals and adjustments to maintain adequate coverage.

4. Compliance with Out-of-State Unemployment and Insurance:

  • Ensure the company's compliance with unemployment and insurance requirements in states where it operates outside its home state.
  • Monitor changes in legislation to adjust policies and practices as needed.

5. Employee Expense Reimbursement:

  • Process and reimburse employee expenses in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Verify the legitimacy and accuracy of expense claims according to company policies.

6. Commission Payments:

  • Handle the payment of commissions, including manual updates in the Rippling system.
  • Ensure accurate calculation and timely distribution of commission payments.

7. Management of Payments and Receivables:

  • Oversee the processing of inbound and outbound financial transactions.
  • Invoice customers for services rendered.
  • Ensure timely collection of receivables and efficient handling of payables.

Reporting lines

This role would report to Skye Scofield (Head of Business Operations & Strategy), and work directly with Statsig’s Head of Sales and CEO.

Compensation

Total compensation for this role will be equivalent to someone with comparable years of experience at a top-tier accounting firm. There will be a significant equity component of your compensation.
